The relief and joy was clear to see in James Arthur’s face when Dermot O’Leary read his name out as the first act safely through to the X Factor final. The 24- year-old leapt and punched the air before giving mentor Nicole a massive hug.
James will be looking back on last night’s stunning performance of The Power of Love by Frankie Goes To Hollywood, thinking that could have been the moment that clinched his place in the X Factor final.
The singer’s performance of the classic eighties power ballad was described by Gary Barlow as “the performance of the series” and it’s clear that the viewing public agreed with the Take That star.
Now it’s down to James, Jahmene Douglas and Christopher Maloney to battle it out in next week's final.
The Middlesbrough singer has gone from strength to strength since the show started, although he found himself in the bottom two a couple of weeks ago, which was a stark reminder that no matter how talented you are, you never know how the public are going to vote.
Now, he’ll know he has a real chance of actually winning the series. Anything can happen on a live final and James, who has admitted just how important to him winning the competition is, will no doubt do his very best to claim the X Factor crown.
Next week will be the moment when James will find out if he truly has The X Factor.
All of this year’s X Factor contestant performances can be downloaded from iTunes now.
Tune in next week to find out who will win X Factor 2012. How eXciting!
