X Factor: Jahmene Douglas becomes an Angel with stunning performance

Jahmene Douglas left the judges stunned when he took to the stage tonight to perform classic Robbie Williams hit Angels.

The shy singer has stood out as one to watch during this year’s X Factor with his perfect performances and stunning vocals, and tonight he proved exactly why he’s one of the favourites.

Dressed in a sparkly burgundy suit, Jahmene was joined by a chorus of backing singers as he belted out a stunning version of the song and the judges were full of praise for the singer, with Louis Walsh telling him: “Every week you deliver and you get better.

“You have star quality, that was an amazing song choice and I think after this week you have to be in the final. You’re a star in the making.”

Tulisa was equally impressed with Jahmene’s performance and said: “If you’re going to take an old school classic and do it in this day and age that’s the way you do it.

“I love the fact you’re a perfectionist and that’s why you’ve got where you are today. I completely think that you could absolutely rip up the music industry.”

Gary loved the performance and told a delighted Jahmene: “We’ve heard Angels hundreds of times, we’ve heard it at auditions hundreds of times and we’ve heard it in performances hundreds of times, but I’ve never heard it sung like that before.

“It was absolutely incredible. The key to your success in this competition is simplicity. Great vocal performance again, well done.”

Jahmene’s mentor Nicole Scherzinger was almost in tears during the performance and said: “You move me and stir me so much. Once you realise your full capacity of how good you truly are then you will be unstoppable baby.”

Jahmene couldn’t hide his happiness after hearing the judges’ comments and said: “I’m feeling overwhelmed. It’s incredible – thank you so much.”

The former supermarket worker’s talent and shy personality have made him popular among voters, and he stood out right from his very first audition.

His nerves almost got the better of him at Boot Camp, but after a pep talk from Louis and Nicole, Jahmene managed to pull off the performance of a lifetime and sailed straight through to the Live Shows.

Last week the 22-year-old took to the stage to sing Beyonce’s Listen and he received nothing but praise from all four judges, who couldn’t find fault with his performance at all.

Earlier this week Jahmene got a call from Jennifer Hudson and was absolutely delighted, saying: “She’s gone through so much and she’s given me a huge confidence boost to just go out there and do it like she has.”

Will Jahmene be praying to the angels to keep him in the competition? Tune into ITV and STV on Sunday night at 8pm to find out who stays and who goes.

All the contestants’ performances will be available to download from iTunes after the sixth Live Show tonight (November 10).

You can save your favourite act by voting for them.
