Jahmene Douglas took to the stage tonight with a bravura performance of the classic track Killing Me Softly.
However, Jahmene’s version had more in common with the Roberta Flack original rather than with The Fugees hip hop version which went to the top of the charts in 1995.
Performing without backing dancers against a plain backdrop, Jahmene delivered an impressive vocal performance, further cementing his position as an X Factor frontrunner.
The judges were unanimous in their praise for the bookies’ favourite who has consistently been amongst the top performers of X Factor 2012.
Mentor, Nicole Scherzinger told him, “Jahmene… Jamazing! We all know you are the greatest and today you tasted and felt every word. That was so beautiful.”
Gary Barlow, who criticised the singer last week for not moving around on stage enough, told him: “Well done, it was just so simple and effortless. You could take on anyone. All round good job.”
Tulisa Contostavlos was also blown away by the Swindon lad’s performance saying, “You are a little muffin. I cannot find one negative critique. All I can do is tell you how amazing you sound.”
Louis Walsh, said “for me you are in a different league, you are the best singer in this competition. This guy is world class.”
Jahmene’s performance tops a week in which the 22-year-old met Hollywood idol Samuel L Jackson at a charity function.
The normally softly spoken singer enthused, “Samuel was very down-to-earth and it was an honour to perform for him. It was in aid of a charity he supports called Shooting Stars. He’s the man!"
Jahmene will be hoping to continue his run of strong performances so that one day he might make a young up-and-coming singer just as star-struck as Samuel L Jackson made him.
All the contestants’ performances will be available to download from iTunes after the Fourth Live Show tonight (October 27).
