Flamboyant singer Rylan Clark hasn’t had an easy time on X Factor and has had to put up with Gary Barlow’s scathing comments week after week, so he was hoping to change the Take That singer’s mind this week with his energetic performance.
The 23-year-old Essex lad looked every inch the dance queen as he strutted his stuff on stage dressed in what looked like a cut-off space suit surrounded by a group of sexy backing dancers for a mad mash-up of Jennifer Lopez’s Get on the Floor and Rihanna’s Please Don’t Stop the Music.
All of the judges, with the exception of Gary, looked like they were loving Rylan’s performance, especially when he started ‘shaking his ass’ on stage, and they couldn’t help but dance and sing along as he got the party started on stage.
Louis Walsh was delighted with Rylan’s over the top production and said: “Another great production featuring you. We know you’re not the best singer but you’re definitely the best entertainer and you give it everything. We don’t want to lose you, we need you in the competition.”
Tulisa was equally delighted and added: “My little Babybel. Vocals definitely rusty tonight but the entertainment factor is still there. Maybe I like you for all the wrong reasons but at the end of the day I always want to see it again.”
Gary was totally unimpressed, however, and told the singer: “Rylan, we have 10 very talented contestants left in this competition and for every week you’re here one of them goes home.
“You should have been the best performer tonight but you were actually the worst.”
He then turned to Nicole and said: “Two words – O-ver.” Miaow!
Nicole Scherzinger was quick to defend her boy and hit back at Gary, saying: “It’s meant to be dancing in club classic week and he’s the only one dancing. He doesn’t have the X Factor Gary, because he has the X Y Z factor!”
Rylan didn’t seem fazed by Gary’s negative comments, however, and told Dermot O’Leary: “I’m not the best singer here, I agree with Gary, but forget about Gary. And Brian [Friedman], thank you for everything.”
Rylan found himself in the bottom two during the first week of the Live Shows alongside Gary’s act Carolynne Poole, and he was saved from being sent home when Louis refused to choose between the two singers, taking thins to deadlock.
Gary was furious when it was revealed that Carolynne had received the least amount of public votes, meaning that she would be going home, and he stormed off the stage in a rage, saying later on Xtra Factor: “It’s a joke, an absolute joke. I’m so gutted for Carolynne.
“Two years running we’ve lost out to joke acts. I don’t get that.”
The singer had better luck last week when he decided to go Gangnam Style with a mash-up of Groove is in the Heart and Pump Up the Jam, and even though Gary has plenty to say about the performance, Rylan managed to avoid being in the bottom two.
Breaking down in tears on stage, he was so excited that he grabbed Nicole round the waist and ran across the stage with her before collapsing in a teary heap of happiness.
All the contestants’ performances will be available to download from iTunes after the third Live Show (October 20).
