Last week’s X Factor results show was packed full of drama, with Gary Barlow sensationally storming off the stage when his act Carolynne Poole was sent home following Louis Walsh’s decision to send the results to deadlock, and this week proved just as dramatic with a shock eviction in store for one of the hopefuls.
The show kicked off with a bang as the four judges blazed onto the stage, with Tulisa and Nicole Scherzinger looking stunning in glittering gowns while Louis and Gary were as dapper as ever in smart suits.
It was soon time for the 12 finalists to perform, and as they stormed onto the stage in a blaze of colour and lights to sing Somebody That I Used to Know, it looked as if all their nerves had been forgotten, with smiles all round as they paraded around the stage looking confident, but it wasn’t long before the smiles were wiped off their faces…
Following rousing performances by former X Factor star Rebecca Ferguson and American singing sensation Taylor Swift, complete with gold, glitter and glowsticks, it was time for Dermot O’Leary to reveal who had made it through to next week’s show and who would have to perform again in the sing-off.
Rylan Clark, who survived last week’s sing-off after ending up in the bottom two against Carolynne Poole, was ecstatic when he found out he was through, breaking down in tears and almost collapsing on stage.
Soon it was down to just a handful of contestants, and it was devastation all round when Melanie Masson and District3 were revealed as the two acts who had received the least amount of public votes.
The judges struggled to decide who should stay and who would be going home, with Gary and Nicole choosing to save Melanie.
“Melanie, I have to go with my heart and you are the oldest in this competition, and you have waited for this all your life, so the act I am sending home is District3,” Nicole said.
Both Louis and Tulisa chose to save District3, with Tulisa saying: “You are both very different but both very talented. I can only go with my heart and to be honest my heart is with the lads so I’m sending home Melanie.”
With the votes tied, Dermot was forced to take the results to dead lock, and Gary was gutted when Melanie was sent home after it was revealed that she had received less public votes than District3.
Melanie was sad to be leaving the competition but was glad to have taken part and said: “I have absolutely enjoyed every single second of being here and the opportunities it has brought. It has just been amazing.”
With Gary having lost two acts in the last two weeks, will it be third time unlucky for him during next week’s live shows or will one of the other judges be waving goodbye to one of their acts instead?
Tune in to X Factor on STV and ITV on Saturday at 8.20pm and on Sunday at 8pm to find out who stays and who goes!
