Superstar hopeful Rory Taylor might feel that his fate on the show was a mixed blessing after he was runner up in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s TV talent competition.
Competing in the final against Roger Wright and Ben Forster, the 24 year old failed to win over the audience and judges and was handed the thorny crown of second place instead of winning a coveted place as Jesus in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s hit musical.
Ben Forster was crowned rock god and will go on to star in the first ever UK arena tour of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s Jesus Christ Superstar starring alongside celebs Mel C, Tim Minchin, and Chris Moyles.
For his final performance Rory gave it his all singing the tear-jerker Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing by Aerosmyth complete with violinists and dry ice, however ever he did miss out on the coveted lead role.
Dawn kicked off the comments saying: “That was massive! However much you rock out - and you did - there is a huge inner calm and a total humility which really suits this role.”
She added: “This experience for you has been a proper boy to man voyage… you look like a proper big bloke out there… There is a complete certainty to your talent.”
Jason was similarly full of praise saying: “You take on all these iconic vocals and you match every one… you don’t fall short… it’s never cheesy. Tonight was perfect, absolutely outstanding. You are a unique vocalist…I’m never bored… You are the rock star.”
Mel gushed: “You can do no wrong in my eyes. I have been lucky enough to work with some of the most successful singers in the world and you are up there with them. You blow me away.” Lordy! High praise indeed!
The good Lord Andrew was also awed saying, “Your voice is the clearest of the clearest of bells… it’s absolutely wonderful and totally in tune, a fantastic performance. Well done.”
Speaking to presenter Amanda Holden Rory revealed that Sir Paul McCartney had wished him luck earlier in the day!
Rory has found himself in the bottom two more than once in the series but last night fought back after a sing off with popular contestant David Hunter claiming a coveted place in tonight’s final. After performing No Matter What Andrew decided to save Rory, but tonight’s efforts weren’t enough to clinch the ultimate top spot.
What did you think of Rory’s performance tonight? Is he heaven sent? Leave us a comment and let us know your thoughts.
