Coronation Street star Alison King has revealed that her soap character Carla Connor feels responsible for Peter Barlow’s meltdown.
Peter falls off the wagon and hits the bottle next week as he struggles to come to terms with his son Simon choosing to live with Leanne instead of with him, and Carla feels like it’s all her fault.
Speaking to Soaplife she revealed: “She fears she’s pushed him over the edge. Michelle tries to tell her Peter has brought this on himself, but Carla loves him and she’s really scared. She wishes she could turn back time.”
Peter hits rock bottom when he abducts Simon, planning to flee the country with him, and although Carla knows what he has done is wrong, she loves Peter so much that she is prepared to go along with his madcap plan.
“She [Carla] would be stuck between trying to make Peter see sense and knowing that he’d go with Simon anyway so it would be better if she went with him,” Alison explained.
“All I can say is it would be against the law for them to take Simon, but she’d still do that for Peter.
“She loves Peter, but she feels a bit responsible for all the angst he’s going through over his son, and thinks maybe it would be easier if she’d have left him alone.”
