Ryan O’Shaughnessy chose to perform No Name in the Britain’s Got Talent final – the track which saw him win over the judges and the nation in the BGT 2012 auditions.
It was a brave choice for the 19-year-old, as he wrote the beautiful ballad for a friend he’s in love with.
That friend turned out to be Katie Lucia Keegan, but sadly, Ryan’s public outpouring of emotion wasn’t enough to win this young ladies heart. She already has a boyfriend.
But that didn’t stop Ryan throwing all his emotions into his final performance and the love he received from the judges and audience made it all worthwhile.
David Walliams said: “Ryan I think that’s the most emotional performance we’ve ever seen on BGT. That was utterly fantastic… Whatever happens tonight but you are going to have a very big future in the industry.”
Amanda Holden agreed: “It was an extraordinary performance again. Your songwriting has so much resonance and Sam Kelly was fantastic tonight, but because you do your own stuff, I think you may have the edge.”
Alesha Dixon said: “You my darling are special and I loved it.”
Simon Cowell had nothing but praise for the talented singer songwriter, as he told him: “We’ve come full circle as hearing that song for the second time I have respect for you… “I think you are very brave and like I said the other night, I think you’re the dark horse of this competition.”
Ryan fought back the tears as he said: “For me, being in this competition and having millions of people listening to my songs, it’s incredible.”
In the semi-final, Ryan’s performance of another self-penned track, First Kiss, won him celebrity fans, including One Direction’s Louis Tomlinson, who Tweeted his congratulations to the Irish teen.
Will Ryan’s heartfelt delivery of No Name be enough to see him take the BGT 2012 crown?
Winning would mean everything to this young lad, but even just being part of BGT has already had a positive impact on his life.
He said: “Now that I've made it to the final, I am starting to believe that I could do well especially considering I mainly entered the competition just to gain some experience and feedback.
“It already has changed my life, and I know that I can pursue music now, which is an awesome feeling.”
