You see some weird and wonderful things on Britain’s Got Talent, although perhaps nothing as strange as the critters on Dr Who, a show that inspired semi final contestant Martyn Croft.
Dalek impersonator Martyn took to the stage for his first audition armed only with a saucepan for his "absolutely unique" Dr Who inspired act, singing King of the Road in his Dalek voice.
The building society worker from Yorkshire wore a blinged up version of his original saucepan on his head – joking it was a diamond jubilee version. Surrounded by neon dalek models and flashing lights he launched into a slightly chaotic performance of Street Tuff.
Comedian David joked: “I think you exterminated the competition.”
Wearing a pan on her head, Alesha told Martyn: “I’m jealous that you’ve got a blinged version!”
Amanda, also sporting cookware on her head, said: “There are millions of Doctor Who fans worldwide, they could vote for you they could get you through to the final.”
Trying to stop Simon from being too mean the cheeky ladies banged their pots on the judge’s head but it didn’t seem to lighten his mood!
He told Martyn: “That was arguably the most stupid act I’ve ever seen on the show... I’m urging Doctor Who fans not to put you through… At the end of the day we have to write a cheque for half a million and put you in front of the royal family and they do not want to see that.”
If Martyn makes it through to the live final on Saturday he faces fierce competition in the form of Sam Kelly, Nu Sxool, Only Boys Aloud, Ashleigh and Pudsey, Molly Rainford, Loveable Rogues, Johnathan and Charlotte, and Kai and Natalia.
